The processing technology of carbon fiber composite materials is evolving on the basis of the characteristics of a product and according to the characteristics and application fields of materials. On the basis of light quality and high strength, carbon fiber composites take different molding processes according to the different application objects, so as to maximize the special properties of carbon fiber materials. In this paper, the forming process and application of carbon fiber composites are briefly summarized.

1. Hand paste forming process:

The mold surface is coated on the surface of the mould, and the pre dipped carbon fiber prepreg is laid on the working face of the mold. The coating or spray resin liquid is painted on the working surface. After the thickness is reached, the molding, the mold release and the post treatment are formed. In today’s highly developed molding technology, hand paste technology has the characteristics of simple technology, low investment and wide application. It has been widely used in many fields, such as petrochemical, storage container, tank, car shell and so on. Its shortcomings are loose texture, low precision, rough surface, low density, low strength of products, and mainly rely on artificial, unstable quality, low production efficiency, and difficult to batch and standardize.

2. Spray molding process:

It is a kind of low pressure molding process in hand paste forming process, which is usually mixed with short cut fiber and resin. The compressed air is evenly sprayed on the mold surface in the spray gun. After the required thickness is reached, the handmade rubber Kun is used back and forth, and finally solidified. A semi mechanized forming process, created to improve the hand paste forming process, has a certain improvement in the production efficiency, and is used to make the transition layer of car body, hull, bathtub and tank.

3. The laminating process:

The prepreg laid on a layer of layers is solidified by pressure and high temperature between the upper and lower plate dies. This process can directly use the production method and equipment of wood plywood, and then improve and improve the flow performance of the resin. This molding process is mainly used to produce composite materials with different specifications and different uses. It has the characteristics of high degree of mechanization and automation, stable product quality and mass utilization, but the equipment investment is large and the cost is high.

4. Winding molding process:

The continuous fiber or carbon cloth impregnated with resin liquid is wound on the core mold according to certain rules, and then the processing technology of the composite material is made by curing, demoulding and post-processing. Carbon fiber winding process can give full play to its high strength, high modulus and low density. It is used to manufacture cylinder, ball and some positive curvature revolving bodies or tubular carbon fiber products.
