As one of the most dreamy materials today, carbon fiber is widely used, but its biggest disadvantage is that the cost is too high.
According to the latest research published in “science”, American scientists have found a cheaper way to make carbon fiber, that is, decomposing plant material into sugar, then converting it to acid, and then producing acrylonitrile with cheap catalyst.
During the above process, no toxic by-products will occur, so the cost will be much lower than before. We should know that the materials for acrylonitrile are oil, ammonia, oxygen and expensive catalysts.
At present, scientists are working to transform their production process into a commercial scale. They also hope that the carbon fiber produced by this new method can be tested at a car level in the near future.
